Welcome to the home page of MaineSAIL, the Maine Software Agent and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the University of Maine. The lab is part of the Department of Computer Science. The laboratory is the center for artificial intelligence and multiagent systems research at UMaine.

There are many ongoing research projects at MaineSAIL. Briefly, these include projects focusing on:

• Intelligent control of real-world agents, such as autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs)
• Natural language processing and interagent communication, including developing techniques for deciding what to say and when to say it
• Context-sensitive reasoning for real-world and software agents
• Multiagent systems (MAS), such as autonomous oceanographic sampling networks (AOSNs), including organization and reorganization mechanisms
• Multimodal interfaces
• Modeling complex biological systems
